In real estate, there is that old saying … how does it go again?

Oh, right. Location, location, location.

Location determines property value. It also determines the success of a business, especially in the B2C space. For instance, if you are a retail organization, being in the right place at the right time is critical for attracting potential customers and foot traffic.

However, given the digital world we work in today, is the way we perceive location changing?

I can understand location still being pretty essential for B2C retailers (even though online shopping has also changed the role of the brick-and-mortar shops, but that’s another topic for another day).

Picture this scenario.

You are sitting at your desk, and send an instant message to a colleague that is working out of office. No response. Next, you try that person’s cell phone. No response again. Meanwhile, you simply need either a “yes” or a “no” approval to go forward with a project request. Simple, right? However, you’re already two steps behind in this wasted exercise. Your next move is to send an email. However, an hour passes by and you still haven’t heard from this person. Two hours later, you get an answer, and found out that the best form of communication would have been through text since your colleague was in a meeting with limited laptop access and couldn’t answer calls.

This, in a nutshell, is the type of runaround that takes place every day in office environments. And business professionals are all out of breath.
