Hyperscale Systems Lead the New Age of Hardware

In a software-driven infrastructure world, the identity of hardware is getting lost, or even worse, being completely devalued.

InfoWorld recently declared that “the cloud is killing traditional hardware and software,” pointing to key trends that show that hardware purchases are on the decline.   

According to a report that InfoWorld and Baird Equity Research Technology ran, “Cloud services will drive a shrinking IT spending pie. As companies increasingly replace server and networking infrastructure with cloud services, we will see a meaningful direct impact on existing hardware and software vendors.”

If you think about physical hardware in relation to your IT infrastructure, it’s like trying to tighten a belt after Thanksgiving.

You can try to reach that last notch on your belt buckle, but the reality is either you won’t get there or the belt will just pop loose at some point. Similarly, physical hardware that was originally fitted for a smaller business environment only has so much wiggle room and capacity before it finally gives out. You can try to cram more data in on these machines, but they simply aren’t built for that level of scalability.
